Daniel Casellas | CTM-EURECAT

Director of Materials Technology Area

Biography

Dr. Daniel Casellas did the PhD at UPC-Barcelona Tech (5/2000), about the fatigue and fracture resistance of advanced ceramics. He is currently the manager of the metals and ceramic unit at EURECAT. Since 6/2014 he is also Adjunct Professor at the Solid Mechanics Division at LTU (Luleå University of Technology, Sweden). Dr Casellas has managed R&D projects on different sectors, mainly in the automotive one, but also in food processing, renewable energies, steel processing and mining among others. In the last years Dr. Casellas has been the scientific responsible of more than 50 R&D projects. He is the author and co-author of 53 publications in scientific journals and has contributed to more than 130 national and international conferences. He holds 1 patent. He has supervised several Masters’ thesis and 5 PhD. His published work has received more than 680 citations with an h-index=15
Research interests have been mainly focused on the application of fracture mechanics to the rationalization of the fatigue and fracture performance of engineering materials, mainly high strength steels, tool materials and technical ceramics. Surface damaging phenomena on materials and related solutions, i.e. tribology and hard thin coatings have also been research interests in the last years. These research topics have been oriented to improve the knowledge to optimize industrial forming processes, like cold and hot forming of thin metal sheets, high pressure die casting of light alloys and hot forging.
