Biography
Born in Barcelona in 1972. Joan Romero earned a degree in Economics from the University of Barcelona and a Master’s in Operations Management and a DAF Diploma in Operations and Innovation Management from ESADE. He has worked as a professor of World and Spanish Economics at the University of Barcelona.
He worked in the banking sector and in the strategic consulting sector before joining the Centre for Innovation and Business Development (CIDEM) of the Government of Catalonia, where he was the planning director. When ACCIÓ was established as a Government of Catalonia agency to boost business competitiveness through innovation and internationalisation, he became its executive secretary and leader its executive director.
He has participated in drafting several business support plans, including the various Reserch and Innovation Plans of Catalonia, the national Pact for Research and Innovation, the different strategic plans that CIDEM and ACCIÓ have promoted in the last 15 years and the National Pact for Industry. He has also led the Annual Reports of R&D and Innovation in Catalonia and the Barometer of Innovation in Catalonia and has participated in different studies on the competitive situation in Catalonia from an international perspective, highlighting the OECD Reviews of Regional Innovation – Catalonia and the IMD Catalonia in World Competitiveness reports.
